We are also not the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and we are not their appraisal desk. Their own valuation on a claim is their work. A free result here is research only.

What's my car worth in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland
Most people who type “car appraisal Vancouver” want an asking price. You can get that without a licensed report. Enter the year, make, model, and kilometres. Choose a region if you want: Lower Mainland for Vancouver and nearby cities, or all of British Columbia if you want a wider set of ads.
The tool reads current listings. Two cars with the same year can sit far apart because of kilometres, damage, or how well the car was kept. Use the range to set a price or to see whether a dealer’s offer feels low. Do not treat the range as a sold price or as a number you can hand in at a tax counter.

People also search “car appraisal near me” when they want someone close. For a free asking-price check, you do not need to drive anywhere. The ads are already online. If you later need a licensed appraisal, many of those reports can be done from clear photos, the odometer reading, and paperwork. That is still a licensed service, not this website.

Vancouver versus the rest of British Columbia
Search demand is highest in Vancouver. The rules are not a Vancouver special case. Provincial sales tax and Insurance Corporation of British Columbia write-off rules apply in every city. A car in the Interior or on Vancouver Island uses the same forms and the same “higher of price or book” idea.
What does change is the listing mix. A Lower Mainland ad set is not the same as ads from farther away. That is why the asking-price tool lets you pick a region. We are not building extra city pages for places with no search demand. One honest Vancouver page plus the provincial hub is enough.
When a licensed appraisal is needed
You need a licensed vehicle appraisal when an official file needs a signed opinion of value. Common cases in Vancouver are the same as the rest of the province:
- A private sale where the published book figure is higher than the car is really worth, and you need the government motor vehicle appraisal form (FIN 320) to show the true condition, including high kilometres or unrepaired damage.
- A write-off or total-loss offer you think is too low, after you have already compared repair cost, ads, and the offer.
- A court, estate, or other legal file that asks for a signed report.

Free estimate versus appraisal
A free estimate is a price check. It compares current ads and gives you a range. It does not inspect the car. Nobody signs it. Use it to list a car, to check a trade-in, or to see whether an insurance number is even close.
An appraisal is a documented opinion for one vehicle on one date. The person who signs it is responsible for the method and the number. That is what a tax office, an insurer, or a court is looking for when “what is it worth?” has money attached to it. We explain the split in more detail on estimate versus appraisal.

Is a car appraisal in Vancouver different from the rest of British Columbia?
The tax and insurance rules are the same across British Columbia. What changes in Vancouver is the set of ads you compare: Lower Mainland listings are not the same mix as ads from the Interior or the Island. A free price check can use current ads from Vancouver, the rest of the Lower Mainland, or all of British Columbia.
When do I need a licensed vehicle appraisal in Vancouver?
