Important disclaimer

This tool shows current asking prices from AutoTrader, not final sale prices or official appraisals. It cannot be used for ICBC claims, provincial sales tax (PST) filings, estate valuations, legal proceedings, or any purpose requiring a certified appraisal. Car Appraisal BC does not yet provide licensed appraisal services. Results are for market research only and may not reflect your vehicle's actual car value.

For AI agents

This tool is also available as a public GET API (no API key required). AI agents can run estimates programmatically without the browser form or Turnstile verification. See our agent documentation and llms.txt.

How the estimate works

This tool searches current AutoTrader listings for vehicles matching your year, make, model, and optional trim within your selected region and radius. It returns low, mid, and high asking prices from private sellers and dealers separately, along with a confidence level based on the number and consistency of listings found.

What asking prices tell you

Asking prices are starting points for negotiation, not final sale prices. Actual transaction values depend on condition, history, market timing, buyer motivation, and negotiation. Use this estimate as a research baseline, not a guarantee of what you'll pay or receive.

When you need an official appraisal

ICBC total-loss claims, tax disputes, estate settlements, legal proceedings, and financing decisions may require a certified appraisal from a licensed appraiser. This free tool provides market comparisons only and cannot substitute for professional valuation services.

Frequently asked questions

How is my car's value estimated?

The tool searches current AutoTrader listings in your region for similar vehicles (same year, make, model, and optional trim) and provides low, mid, and high price ranges from private sellers and dealers. These are asking prices, not final sale prices.

Is this an official appraisal?

No. This is an informational market comp tool, not a licensed appraisal. It cannot be used for ICBC claims, tax filings, estate valuations, or any purpose requiring a certified appraisal.

Why do I need to complete a verification?

The quick bot check helps us provide this tool for free while preventing automated scraping. The browser form is private. The API caches estimates so repeat searches are free and instant.

Can I use this estimate for ICBC or tax purposes?

No. ICBC and tax authorities require official valuations or certified appraisals. This tool provides market research only and cannot be used for insurance claims or provincial sales tax (PST) reduction.

What if no listings are found?

The estimate depends on current AutoTrader inventory. Try expanding your search radius, removing optional trim, or checking back later when more listings are available.

Does Car Appraisal BC provide paid appraisals?

Appraisal services are planned after licensing is complete. This free tool is available now for market research only.

This is not…

This free estimate tool is an informational market comparison resource, not a licensed appraisal, not Canadian Black Book, not Kelley Blue Book, not an ICBC determination, and not AutoTrader. It cannot be used for ICBC claims, provincial sales tax (PST) reduction, estate valuations, legal proceedings, or any purpose requiring a certified appraisal. Use it for market research only.
